Mtwara. Simba Sports Club yesterday posted a 1-0 victory against Ndanda Football Club in Mtwara in the ongoing Tanzania Mainland Vodacom Premier League match at Nangwanda Stadium.
The victory made Simba SC to go third with 27 points from 13 matches and beat Mtibwa Sugar for goal difference average. Simba SC has so far collected 20 goals while Mtibwa Sugar has collected 17 goals.
The thrilling match saw the two teams starting with a bang and missed many clear chances in the first 20 minutes.
Ndanda FC were the first to reach Simba’s goalmouth and Atupele Green scored a goal following a fine pass from Omary Mponda. But the goal was ruled out as the scorer was in an offside position.
Simba created various scoring chances, but the team strikers led by Danny Lyanga, Brian Majwega, Hamis Kiiza and Raphael Kiongera shot wide. Ndanda FC under Kigi Makasy and Aziz Sibo continued to press in a bid to find a goal, but Simba SC defence remained firm to clear all dangerous goals. The two teams finished the first half with goalless draw.
Simba SC Briton technician, Dylan Kerr, made a substitute in the second half by taking out Kiongera and his position was taken by Ibrahim Ajibu. The pace of the match increased. Ajibu showed good coordination with Kiiza and Mwinyi Kazimoto to score the lone goal.
Kazimoto dribbled the ball to the edge of the penalty area and gave a fine cross to Kiiza whose volley hit the bar before Ajibu put it to the net, leaving Ndanda’s goalkeeper Jackson Chove hapless.
Simba head coach Dylan Kerr said the match was tough.
He congratulated his players for the results. “We are still going up in the standing; my players deserve compliments and we need to flex our muscles to go up,” said Kerr.
Ndanda FC assistant head coach Ngawina Ngawina conceded defeat, saying defense blunders made Simba score. “We lost our marking strategies, we lost concentration and allowed Simba to score in dying minutes. We take the result as a challenge,” said Ngawina.
