Dar es Salaam. Dar Khalsa hockey team laboured to edge Tanzania Prisons 2-1 in the Dar es Salaam regional hockey league match at the Lugalo ground on Monday.

Both sides worked hard throughout the game but it was eventually Dar Khalsa, who had the last laugh, thanks to their ability to fully exploit the best chance they had.

Prisons , who had a couple of experienced players into their fold, battled gallantly in an effort to avoid defeat, but their opponents stood firm to cancel out attacks.

Dar Khalsa, who are among serious competitors in the league, will now be forced to come out firing on all cylinders in their forthcoming assignments if they are to remain serious contenders for the title.

They made a bright start in the match and were the first score barely a minute from the start.

It was Emanuel Owan who netted the opener for Khalsa after a brilliant finish.

Five Minutes after resumption, Owan came into the picture again, this time rounding several players before sending a blockbuster into the gaping net.

Ten minutes later, Prisons pulled one back through Castro Mayuma’s super drive.

Khalsa coach Paramjit Singh said he was satisfied with his side’s performance, noting that they showed much improvement in comparison with their performance in their first match.

“Our performance in the opening match wasn’t that good but we are slowly improving,” he said.

Team captain Jagroop Singh had similar views, adding that they put up a brave fight against their opponents.
