157 passengers feared dead as Kenya-bound Ethiopian Airlines plane crashes

An Ethiopian Airlines plane flying to Nairobi crashed on Sunday morning, the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said.

Dar es Salaam. An Ethiopian Airlines 737 plane bound to Nairobi crashed on Sunday morning, the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said.

Mr Ahmed issued condolences via his Twitter handle.

“The Office of the PM, on behalf of the government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning,” Mr Ahmed twitted on the official handle for the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia

The twit has since been taken up by several media outlets.

A statement from EthiopianAirlines which was quoted by several media outlets showed that the flight No: ET302 dropped from radar six minutes after departure from Addis Ababa enroute to Nairobi in Kenya.

It states that the crashed jet was a brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 that was delivered to the airline just four months ago.

The flight had 149 passengers and eight crew members on-board.
