Dar es Salaam. The Chief Justice, Prof Ibrahim Juma, on Friday, December 14, 2018 graced the 59th graduation where 909 new advocates were admitted to the bar after completing their studies at the Law School of Tanzania.

The colourful ceremony, which took place at the School’s grounds in Dar es Salaam, was attended by various top judicial officers including Attorney General Dr Adelardus Kilangi, Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) president Fatma Karume, Justices of Appeal, High Court Judges and retired Judges, to mention but a few.

"In compliance with the Advocates Act, today, I declare that all the listed lawyers have officially been enrolled and admitted as the new advocates," Prof Juma announced.

For her part, TLS president Ms Karume urged the new advocates to comply with the ethics of the profession and understand their role in harmonizing justice in the society.

She further expressed her optimism that the enrolment and admission of the new advocates would add value towards achieving justice in the country.

"The key challenge is that majority of the TLS members are young lawyers, hence they don't have adequate experience to effectively deal with issues related to fair justice," she said.

She added: "Despite the challenges, the TLS keeps growing and I am optimistic that the admission of new advocates would strengthen the existing society's operations."

Delivering his opening remarks during the ceremony, the AG Kilangi congratulated the new advocates for reaching the milestone and urged them to embrace fair justice when serving their clients.

"I urge those who will be looking for employment in either private or public institutions and those who are already employed in the institutions, to adhere to the existing ethics of this profession and country's laws when serving their clients," he advised the advocates.
