Simba, Mtibwa shine in continental duels

Dar es Salaam. Simba stormed into the first round of the African Champions League after humiliating Mbabane Swallows of eSwatini 4-0 in the encounter held yesterday at Mavuso Stadium, Manzini.

The victory means Simba have advanced in the stage with an 8-1 goal aggregate. The team is now waiting to face the winner of the match between Nkana of Zambia and UD Songo of Mozambique to be played today in Kitwe, Zambia.

Zambian import, Cletus Chama was the man of the match after scoring two goals in the encounter officiated by Seychelles referees, Nelson Emile Fred and assistants, Hensley Danny Petrousse and Gerard Pool. Chama scored in the 27th and 32nd to make the team lead 2-0 at the breather. Chama has so far a total of three goals in two encounters. Other two goals for the Msimbazi Street giants were scored by Emmanuel Okwi (51st minute) and Meddie Kagere in the 61st minute. In the first match, Simba’s captain, John Bocco scored two goals.

As Simba won 4-0 away against Mbabane Swallows, Mtibwa Sugar registered 1-0 victory against Northern Dynamo of Seychelles in Victoria yesterday.

Haruna Chanongo scored Mtibwa Sugar’s goal to make the team advance into the first round with a 5-0 aggregate.

Mtibwa Sugar will now play Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) between December 14 and 16 and the second leg between December 21 and 23.

In Zanzibar, Tanzania representatives in the Confederation Cup, Zimamoto won 2-1 against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the encounter held at the Amaan Stadium.

However, Zimamoto failed to qualify for the first round despite the victory which makes Kaizer Chiefs advance with a 5-2 goal aggregate. Zimamoto goals were scored by Yussuf Mtuba in the 43rd and 71st. Kaizer Chief goal was scored Lebogang Manyama in 52nd.
