Local Subcontractor, Supplier and Labor – Promoting Local Economic Development Since the project was launched, almost 900 jobs have provided to local residents. Meanwhile, 30 Sub-contractors and 50 suppliers are co-operating with us, of these, 26 Sub-contractors and 45 suppliers are local. Our major materials, including reinforcements, aggregate and sands are provided by local suppliers. Important parts of the project are done by local subcontractor, such as security, relocating the electricity wires and so on. This undoubtedly helps promoting the economic development.

Social, traffic management and environment protection – Improving People’s Life We spare no effort to help local institutions. We always provide the materials they ask from us and other times we provide our machines and personnel to help them so that we can make people’s life more convenient.

Several institutions including Tanzania People’s Defense Force and the Municipal Council of Ubungo have written us letter of appreciation. Before the project was settled, it has been a problem that the traffic situation in Ubungo area was terrible. Everyday more than 65,000 cars go through this area, causing terrible traffic jams.

Sometimes the cars stay still for two hours, which wastes people’s time inconveniencing their lives. In order to make people’s life more convenient and ensure the project’s smooth process, several measures were taken. The roundabout was built, which significantly eased the traffic pressure at the intersection.

Meanwhile, flagmen are hired, which helps to ensure pedestrian’s safety and guide the vehicles. In addition, in every intersection crash bearers are arranged to make sure that cars can go through safely.

As of now, we have worked through 49 times of traffic diversion. So that it won’t affect people’s daily life, each time before the diversion the public is informed through newspapers, radio, flyers and other means.

Related signs would be put in appropriate location to guide the vehicles. For purpose of ensuring the smooth communication, the grievance redress committee is organized by us drawing members from the consultant, local district authority and surrounding communities.

Every week the community communication officer arranges meetings to inform district authorities, community and local vendors about the development of the project.

Aiming at protecting the environment, professional sub-contractor is hired to survey the environment at the site and camp. On health of our employees, the infirmary has been built at the camp so that whenever the employees are injured they are treated immediately. We have an ambulance which is ready to deal with any emergency.

We have also attached importance to the prevention of AIDS. A professional sub-contractor of this area has been hired to provide knowledge about HIV to our employees.

New technology used in the project -Ensuring the Smooth Running In order to achieve better results, some new technologies are adopted. For example, the prestress concrete T-girders are applied.

When transporting the girders, some newly developed techniques are also applied. For the process of girder erection, the bridge girder and erection machine is used.

Among the steel girders which will be erected, there are 50-meter super long span steel girders which are not common. For the pavement asphalt, the higher-level modified bitumen PG76/10 is applied in this project.

Significance and subsequent impact on Tanzania after the project is completed after the completion of the project, the most direct impact for Tanzania is that the traffic pressure will significantly reduce, which will undoubtedly make people’s life more convenient and comfortable.

Meanwhile, it will promote the economic development, for it will reduce the cost of transportation while increasing the speed. Buoyancy as the project seems to engage higher number of locals with unrivalled exposure through working various Chinese experts’ teams.

In the process, they keep learning the new technologies from China. This will helps to provide many talents in the aspect of construction for Tanzania.
