Figures produced yesterday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), show that the purchasing power of the shilling dropped to Sh92.18 in September from Sh92.20 recorded in August this year.
The drop is attributed to an increase in prices of consumer goods, mainly food and non food items consumed by households.
Dar es Salaam. After gaining for two conservative months, the purchasing power of the Tanzanian Shilling dropped slightly in September, new figures have shown.
Figures produced yesterday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), show that the purchasing power of the shilling dropped to Sh92.18 in September from Sh92.20 recorded in August this year. The drop is attributed to an increase in prices of consumer goods, mainly food and non food items consumed by households. The drop means that the actual value of a Sh100 coin as quoted in December 2015 is now Sh92.18.
In its monthly review, NBS shows that the monthly inflation increased by 0.02 in September when compared with August rate. (By Mnaku Mbani)
