Air Tanzania launches flights to Dubai

Dar es Salaam. Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) on Sunday launched direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

ATCL launched the new route at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam Terminal 3.

Speaking during the launch, ATCL managing director Ladislaus Matindi said the airline is expanding its international network with the new route.

"Starting today, March 31, 2024, direct flights to Dubai will operate four times per week with the brand new and ultra-modern aircraft,  the Boeing 737 MAX 9," he said.

"It is state-of-the-art and  exceptional in terms of convenience and represents a significant milestone for the airline since it is perfectly suited to connect to prominent markets, providing enhanced capability and flexibility across the network."

Mr Matindi added that the route is important because of its significance in business relations between Tanzania and Gulf states.

"The launch of the new destination to the most populous city in the UAE and a centre of regional and international trade demonstrates our profound commitment to international markets that foster increased business and leisure travel opportunities for customers,"  he said.

ATCL will operate the flights every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Tickets are available starting at $399 return that includes three free pieces of checked baggage allowance for all passengers, with 23kg per bag for economy class and 30kg per bag for business class.

Mr Matindi said ATCL invites travel agents and tour operators to partner with the airline and benefit from special deals and many other incentives.

The Dubai route will be the seventh international route to be launched by the expanding airline.

Other regional and international routes that have been inaugurated by the airline are Nairobi, Bujumbura, Lubumbashi, Entebbe, Ndola (Zambia), Johannesburg (launched in 2021, now suspended), Comoros, Harare, and Guangzhou.
