Ng’wandu was convicted of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Sh10,000.
Geita. Paul Ng’wandu, a former medical officer at Nyarugusu Health Center in Geita District, has evaded a one-year prison sentence by paying a fine of Sh1 million.
Ng’wandu was convicted of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Sh10,000.
The ruling was handed down by Geita District Court Magistrate Samuel Maweda, who accepted the evidence presented by the prosecution.
In case number 119 of 2023, it was alleged that Ng’wandu engaged in corrupt practices while carrying out his duties, receiving Sh10,000 from a patient.
State Prosecutor Antidius Rutayuga, with the assistance of Ruth Ndetto, informed the court that Ng’wandu’s actions were in violation of Section 15(1)(a)(2) and (3)(a)(i) of the Anti-Corruption Act as amended in 2022.
Magistrate Maweda sentenced Ng’wandu to a fine of Sh500,000 for each of the two offenses, or a one-year prison term. Ng’wandu chose to pay the total fine of Sh1 million, thereby avoiding incarceration.
