Davos. The Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, led by Secretary-General Cheikh Al-Mahfoudh bin bayyah, took center stage at the World Economic Forum 2024, showcasing the UAE's vision for a peaceful and prosperous world.
Cheikh bin bayyah emphasized the need for a "civilizational contract" guaranteeing security, stability, and economic well-being for all. He pointed to the UAE's success in hosting COP28 as a testament to its commitment to sustainable development and global cooperation.
The Forum actively participated in the Council of 100 initiative, fostering dialogue and understanding between the Islamic world and the West. Cheikh bin bayyah joined a closed-door roundtable with WEF founder Klaus Schwab, tackling critical challenges and exploring the role of civil society in multilateral cooperation.
The launch of the "Faith in Action" report, focusing on education and AI as catalysts for sustainable peace, resonated with the Forum's mission. Cheikh bin bayyah highlighted the role of religions in addressing global challenges and presented the Forum's contributions to developing AI ethics. He mentioned the Rome Call for AI Ethics and the establishment of the first AI and Civil Society Commission, demonstrating the Forum's commitment to responsible technology governance.
On the final day, the Forum explored the theme of "Faith in Action" through diverse religious perspectives. Cheikh bin bayyah emphasised the fundamental value of human dignity, rooted in all major religions, and called for an international system that safeguards this principle regardless of differences. He cited the Abu Dhabi Declarations for Peace, including the Marrakesh Declaration and the Declaration of Human Fraternity, as models for building a more inclusive and just world.
The World Economic Forum, with its influential audience of leaders, thinkers, and business executives, provided a crucial platform for the UAE to share its vision for peace and collaboration. .
