The Citizen visited a number of polling stations, including Ghala la Kijiji, and found only a small number of voters using their democratic principle.

Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) candidate Hashim Mbonde showed concerns that the number of people who had turned out in the morning was small, saying it was possible some were still in their various houses of worship attending liturgical services.

"Hopefully, the number will raise in the afternoon once prayers have been concluded,” he said.

For his part, Chadema candidate Elibariki Saidia said the number citizens appeared at polling stations was small as compared to attendance during election campaigns.

While the number of voters were small in Ghala la Kijiji and Malindi Estate polling stations, other polling stations were found to have completely no voters.

Mr Oswadi Nicholus, election supervisor at Malindi Estate station called upon citizens to turn up and exercise their constitutional right.

Voting will be closed at 4pm.
