The man is accused of killing Mariam Charles, 26, a chorister at AIC (T) Chang’ombe Church.
Dar es Salaam. Police have arrested the suspected killer of his fiancée at a Buza guesthouse in the city last week.
The man is accused of killing Mariam Charles, 26, a chorister at AIC (T) Chang’ombe Church.
According to reports, the incident occurred on September 4. On Wednesday, police confirmed that they found Mariam’s body in a guesthouse room. The reports of his arrest were confirmed by the church’s pastor Elisha Isebuka yesterday.
According to him, the suspect was detained at the church premises during prayers to pay last respects to Mariam. The burial took place yesterday at Chang’ombe cemetery.
“The man who is suspected to have committed the murder has been arrested by police. He was spotted at the church compound,” he told mourners.
The Citizen’s efforts to reach Temeke Regional Police Commander Emmanuel Lukula proved futile as his mobile phone was unreachable.
Mariam’s family said the two planned to get married. On September 4, the suspect arrived in Dar es Salaam from Dodoma to visit his fiancée.
Mariam informed her mother about his arrival and that they planned to meet at the guesthouse, where he had put up.
However, Mariam did not return home that day, and on the next day her mother received a text message from the suspect which read “I have killed your daughter”. She promptly reported the matter to police.
Mariam’s body was taken to Muhimbili National Hospital for post-mortem and preservation.
Police started investigating the murder.
But the suspect continued sending text messages to Mariam’s family members and church choristers accusing them of being the cause of a rift between him and his fiancée.
