Ruvuma. Farmers in Madaba District are advised to cultivate beans using modern farming techniques including applying fertiliser properly for better yields of the important crop.
An agricultural expert from a non-governmental organisation -African Fertiliser and Agribusinesses Partnership (Afap), Dr Mbette Msolla, gave the advice when he recently visited a demonstration farm of beans at Madaba Ward.
Dr Msolla told farmers that most of them cultivate beans without observing regulations because bean farming is not prioritised despite its importance to human nutrition.
“Most farmers believe that beans can grow on their own, which is not true. We are supposed to use fertiliser, one bag of fertiliser is enough for a one acre farm,” Dr Msolla said.
