Dar es Salaam. Telecom company Yas has unveiled a new national campaign dubbed Anzia Ulipo—Swahili for Start Where You Are—in a bid to inspire young Tanzanians to harness their existing resources, talents, and technology to pursue their ambitions without waiting for perfect conditions.
Launched in Dar es Salaam, the campaign marks a significant push by Yas to encourage grassroots innovation and digital empowerment, particularly among the country’s youth.
“Tanzania is a nation full of dreamers, thinkers, hustlers, and innovators,” said Yas CEO Pierre Canton Bacara at the launch. “Anzia Ulipo is not just a campaign—it’s a movement. A call to action for every Tanzanian to recognise that the right time to begin is now, with what they already have.”
The initiative reflects Yas’s broader mission to unlock digital opportunities across key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and commerce—using the robust 4G and 5G infrastructure the company has rolled out nationwide.
The campaign also comes at a time when nearly 35 percent of Tanzania’s population is aged between 15 and 35, according to the 2022 National Census. Many in this demographic face barriers such as limited access to capital, training, or job opportunities.
At the event, several young innovators shared real-life stories about how digital tools helped them overcome challenges. One such story came from a rural educator using Yas technology to conduct online classes, and another from a farmer who leverages real-time digital platforms to monitor market prices and sell produce beyond regional boundaries.
Isack Nchunda, Chief Commercial Officer at Yas, said the campaign is about instilling belief and initiative in Tanzania’s youth.
“Every journey begins with the decision to act. Anzia Ulipo is about recognising the power within each of us—no matter where we live or what we have—to start building something meaningful. With the right digital tools and mindset, ideas can become enterprises and ambition can become real achievement,” he said.
As part of the campaign, Yas will continue providing tailor-made digital products and services aimed at youth, entrepreneurs, and underrepresented communities, reinforcing its role not only as a telecom provider but as an enabler of progress.
