Simba beat Geita Gold to leapfrog Azam FC into second place

Mwanza. Simba beat Geita Gold 1-0 at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza today, replacing Azam FC in second place in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League.

Simba’s lone goal was scored by Babacar Sarr in the 81st minute, following a good pass from Kibu Dennis. The victory means Simba are now seven points behind Yanga, who are at the top of the table with 40 points from 15 matches.

Simba have collected 33 points from 14 matches. Azam FC are now third with 32 points, followed by Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC), who have collected 21 points, and Singida Fountain Gate FC, who have 20 points.

All teams have played 14 matches. Simba’s assistant head coach, Daniel Cadena, commended the players for yesterday’s performance and promised to continue seeking the top position in the standings.

Geita Gold FC head coach Dennis Kitambi conceded defeat, saying a lack of concentration allowed Simba to score their lone goal.

Meanwhile, four teams are in danger of being relegated to the First Division league, currently known as the Championship, as well as featuring in the relegation playoffs in accordance with league regulations.

The teams are Mtibwa Sugar, Mashujaa, Ihefu FC, and Kagera Sugar. Mtibwa Sugar is at the bottom of the league standings with eight points from 14 matches, while Mashujaa is placed 15th after garnering 10 points from 15 matches, and Ihefu FC is placed 14th with 13 points from 14 matches.

Kagera Sugar is in 13th after collecting 14 points from 14 matches, respectively.
