Swimming coach guru now hones Sonia’s skills

Dar es Salaam. Director of Swimming at St Felix in United Kingdom, Sue Purchase has started to sharpen skills to the Tanzania top female swimmer, Sonia Tumiotto ahead of the Olympics Games for Youths scheduled to take place in Argentina.

Sonia who studies at the St Felix School is among two swimmers who will represent the country in the games scheduled to start from October 6th to 18th in Argentina’s capital city, Buenos Aires. Also in the list is Dennis Mhini who will compete in men category.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Sonia’s mother, Leena Kapadia said Sonia is undergoing intensive training ahead of the games and her target is to perform better.

Leena said Coach Sue is the best coach and has prepared training program that make Sonia to be busy while sitting for national examinations.

“Her training and examinations are going parallel, this because, there is no enough time before she travel to Argentina, actually, she has busy and intensive schedule,” said Leena who chaired Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) Cana committee last year.

She explained that after her examination, Sonia will join the national team coach, Michael Livingstone in the city and will train at International School of Tanganyika (IST) swimming pool in Masaki.

The training will also involve Tanzania swimmers who have been selected to form national team which will feature in the African Swimming Federation (Cana) zone three championships to be held in Sudan.

The acting secretary general of the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), Inviolata Itatiro, said the two swimmers are considered to be the best to represent the country, in terms of the criteria issued by the ‘Fédération Internationale de Natation’ (the International Swimming Federation, Fina).
