Tanzania Netball Association (Chaneta) Chairperson Anne Kibira said yesterday that the preparations for the league were in full swing.
Kibira said that the curtain-raiser will be followed by another match between Zanzibar champions Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) against Tanzania Mainland’s Uhamiaji at the same venue.
“Netball fans should expect a major treat as all teams are well prepared, each seeking to snatch the title,” said Kibira.
“Two top teams will secure tickets to represent the country in the East Africa Netball Championship to be held in Uganda next year,” she added.
The Chaneta chairperson named the other teams lined up for what promises to be tough but exciting league as Jeshi Stars, Mbeya City, Tumbaku and Police Morogoro, all from the Mainland. Those from Zanzibar are KVZ, Zimamoto, Wete Stars and Chake Stars.
Meanwhile, JKT Mbweni head coach Angelina Daudi Kihenzeva said that although they will miss the services of four key players, she still believes they will ratain the title.
Kihenzeva named the players as Nelly Anyengisye, Mwajuma Shabani, Joyce and Theresia Watata.
“Our fans should expect positive results in tomorrow’s match because I still have at my disposal players who are equally good,” she said.
The title holders will welcome back their dependable player Mwanaidi Hassan who has shaken off a leg injury, according to the coach.
Mwanaidi’s absence was highly felt during this year’s Mainland championship held in Shinyanga Region where the army outfit failed to shine.
