Kavumbagu’s contract will expire at the end of this month and the club is yet to initiate negotiation because all players and officials are on holiday.
Dar es Salaam. Azam Football Club has said the contract renewal of its Burundian striker, Didier Kavumbagu, will depend on the players’ agent decision.
Kavumbagu’s contract will expire at the end of this month and the club is yet to initiate negotiation because all players and officials are on holiday.
Speaking with The Citizen, Azam Fc Chief Executive Officer Saad Kawemba said so far there was no player who had been released or recruited for the team pending the team’s technical bench decision.
Kawemba said they were not aware that Kavumbagu had decided to quit the club and look for the greener pastures abroad.
“We do not know which club has offered him a contract, we have just read through the media that he plans to join Mbeya City and others say that he has signed one year contract in Vietnam, we are waiting early next month as all players would have to attend in the team’s camp and know the status of each player,”
“We cannot force players who want to leave the club, if there are offer for them we will see, but normal procedure is to write a letter to us and give your offer, so if there are players who want to join other teams, we call them to inform us and follow rules and regulations governing registration exercise,” said Kawemba.
Kavumbagu has been at the centre of rumours also linking him with a move to Simba. He’s also been rumoured to be currently in Vietnam for trials with a top division side.
He said: “Our focus at the moment is strengthening the team… We cannot disclose our strategies because we are refining them with the technical team.”
Meanwhile, the Azam chief said the club had “shut the doors” on local players, and now is working on identifying potential foreign-based players to boost the squad ahead of the East and Central, Mainland Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup.
