Farid Mussa’s Slovenia trip is cancelled

Europe bound? Azam’s Farid Mussa.

What you need to know:

The club said it changed its mind, and instead Farid will now join any other club in Spain, England or Scotland.

Dar es Salaam. Slippery Azam FC winger Farid Mussa will no longer go for the much-anticipated 10-day trial with Slovenia side Maribor, his club has said.

The club said it changed its mind, and instead Farid will now join any other club in Spain, England or Scotland.

Farid was scheduled to leave the country on January 10, but in a surprising turn of events, club chief executive officer Saad Kawemba said the deal had been reversed.

“We have changed our mind,” he said, adding, “Farid will now go for trials in Europe. It can be England, Italy, Spain, and Scotland or somewhere else, we have considered many technical matters.”

Azam’s “change of mind” is despite the fact that Slovenia is among the best 60 teams in the Fifa rankings.

He said Farid will continue featuring in the Tanzania Mainland premier league while getting “special professional input” for his career.

The winger had also been targeted by Olimpija Ljubljana, another Slovenia outfit.

Already the club’s promising striker, Kelvin Friday, is in Ethiopia where he’s successfully secured a contract with the country’s premier league first-runners St George.

Kelvin was invited for trials by former Taifa Stars head coach Mart Nooij, who has replaced former Azam FC and Simba Sports Club Brazilian technician, Neider Dos Santos.

The player becomes the second Tanzanian to play in the Ethiopian league.

Ivo Mapunda was the first to join the team before he leaving for Kenyan side Gor Mahia and then Simba SC and later last year, Azam FC.

Meanwhile, two Tanzanian players Ubwa Abu Zuberi and Haruna Chanongo are attending trials at the 2015 CAF Champions League winners TP Mazembe.

The duo kicked off the exercise when the team resumed pre-season training on January 4, in Kinshasa, DR Congo. Ubwa plays for Stand United, while his compatriot is a former Simba SC player.
