Dar es Salaam. Azam FC forward Didier Kavumbagu believes that this season’s Premier League title will go to Chamazi.

The towering Burundian said Azam have enough ammunition to keep the winning run going until May when the championship climaxes.

The Stewart Hall-coached team relinquished their title to the current champions, Young Africans, last season, but they are neck-and-neck in this year’s title race.

Azam lead the 16-team table with 25 points followed by Yanga who have so far collected 23 points from nine matches.

“I strongly believe that Azam will clinch the title this season. We have a good team, which can go all the way to May unbeaten,” said the lanky forward.

“What we need to do is to focus more on scoring as many goals as possible,” Kavumbagu told the club’s website.

Kavumbagu missed several matches at the start of the season, but Hall has reinstated him in the starting line-up and he has repaid the coaches’ faith with two goals in the last two ties.

He was a key contributor in his team’s recent 5-0 triumph over Toto Africans of Mwanza in their latest league assignment at Chamazi complex.

“I am happy for scoring, but that’s the striker’s job. I believe that more goals will come, but we as a team have to play well and score more,” he stressed.

“I understand that Yanga and other teams are on the heels of Azam, which promises a long fight for the title, but I am confident that we will have the last laugh.”

The former Yanga striker also showered praise on Azam’s defence for conceding five goals only in nine matches.

Stand United boast the best defence so far after playing 10 games and conceding four goals only. They sit fifth with 19 points.
