Nairobi. Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson, skipper Victor Wanyama and winger Ayub Timbe are optimistic that they can beat Mauritius today in the return leg of the 2018 World Cup preliminary qualifier and wrap up a ticket to round two.
Wanyama said that they will be playing under no pressure thanks to the five- away goals they scored in Mauritius and wants fans to turn out in large numbers to support the team .Should they dispatch the Islanders, they will come up against Cape Verde at the next hurdle.
“We are prepared and focussed for the game. The win away helped our course and we are looking towards getting victory tomorrow,” Wanyama told michezoafrika at the Kasarani Stadium moments after the mid-morning work- out.
Timbe, who has been a star-performer in the last two matches is expected to play a crucial role in the match in either side of the wing and is relishing the challenge.
“My goal is always to give my best. The sky is the limit for me and that means I have to work hard and give everything at any given time.”
“I can play in either wing and even as a centre- forward because when I began my career that was my natural playing position.”
A total of 22 players took part in the morning workout which was their final session before facing the visitors tomorrow at Kasarani from 4pm.
The Indian Ocean Islanders were scheduled to hold an evening training session at the match venue to have a feel of the ground.
Meanwhile, Zambian based defender David Calabar Owino has been drafted in the Harambee Stars squad to take on Mauritius, according to a communiqué from the FKF.
The Zesco United defender was part of the team’s second day training yesterday at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani placing him in contention for today duel after missing the away trip.
His inclusion and that of fellow South Africa based defender comes handy for the Stars back line.
The team’s defence will be walking a tight rope of trying to shun earning further bookings that could see player sitting out of the next clash if Stars seal their way past the Sunday clash. (Agencies)
