Maguri to leave Stand United

Dar es Salaam. Stand United and national soccer team striker Elias Maguri will part ways with the Shinyanga-based club next year, it has been revealed.

Stand United is among 16 teams competing in this season’s Mainland Premier League which is gradually inching towards the home stretch.

In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, Maguri said that he would not renew his contract with the Acacia Mining firm-sponsored team after when the 2015/16 season ends.

The team’s technical bench led by Patrick Liewig is on the brink of losing their job following an abysmal performance in the league in recent weeks.

They are among teams tha bank on miracle to avoid relegation when the top flight comes to an end early next year.

Maguri, one of the best forwards in the country at the moment, admitted that all was not well within the club.

And the player has fallen out of the head coach’s favour.

He did not feature for Stand United in their recent league match against Coastal Union held at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga where his team won 3-1.

He accused the French tactcian of not giving him the support he needs to excel in the sport.

“I am no longer interested to play for Stadn United because coach Liewig accuses me of playing below standard,” he said.

Maguri said he would sign for a another Premier League in the near future.

He fell short of revealing the club eh would join, saying it was too early to do so.

The player has been linked with a three Premier League clubs, including the so-called soccer giantsd Young Africans and Simba.
