Dar es Salaam. The first choice goalkeeper of Tanzania’s national football team (Taifa Stars) and Simba SC, Aishi Manula, joined the “Busti Kipaji” campaign to encourage the next generation of football players in the country.
Organised by Airtel Tanzania and Tecno, the initiative aimed to tackle a barrier facing the youth including lacking access to sports equipment.
The campaign was held recently at Mabibo’s Las Vegas grounds in the city, where young football players were provided with sport gear, including football boots, to nurture their talents and dreams. Manula, who advocates youth development and who is also a Tecno ambassador, called on parents to help shape young athletes’ future.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by many talented youngsters, stating: “We often see children brimming with potential, but their dreams are hindered by the lack of sport gear. For many Tanzanian families, affording essential sports equipment can be a significant hurdle. I commend Tecno and Airtel Tanzania for launching this impactful initiative that empowers these young players to chase their aspirations on the football pitch.”
Manula shared his own experience, saying: “It’s important to remember that even seasoned players like myself started out playing without shoes. We faced challenges, but with dedication and support, we were able to achieve our goals. Parents should encourage their children to pursue their talents and provide them with necessary support, even when resources are limited.” As part of the campaign, a thrilling football tournament was held, whereby winners received not only football boots, but also cash prizes and jerseys to acknowledge their talents.
Tecno Marketing Manager Salma Shafi expressed her delight at the campaign’s success. “We are proud to have partnered with Airtel Tanzania to launch this impactful initiative,” she stated.
“The campaign coincided with the launch of the Tecno Spark 20 phone. For every phone purchased, a pair of shoes was donated to a young football player. We are also thrilled to empower them financially and celebrate their achievements.” she said.
