Dar es Salaam. It’s now time for teams’ assessment as the Mainland Vodacom Premier League goes on “leave” to think of upsets and successes.
The league will return to action on December 12 after key players of the top flight sides come back to their respective club from the national team, Taifa Stars’ campaign in the Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifiers’.
Stars, under Charles Mkwasa, will play Nigeria on November 14 in Dar es Salaam in a double legged qualifiers, whose return leg will be played in Algiers after three days.
Reigning champions, Dar es Salaam Young Africans, alongside their fellow title favourites, Azam FC, are now assessing their performance and planning for victories as they will in mid-November resume training for their forthcoming league assignments.
Azam FC, who are now commanding the table with 25 points after humiliating Toto Africans 5-0 on Sunday, have allowed their players, who have not been included in the national team assignments to relax before they are joined by fellow players from Taifa Stars to assemble for their mid December 12’s tough assignment against Simba Sports Club, according to the Ice cream maker’s club Website.
Young Africans will also be in action on December 12 against Mgambo JKT, seeking to consolidate their lead following their come and go league leadership against the ice cream makers. The Jangwani Street boys are expected to resume training on November 12 before their key players from Taifa Stars join the rest of the squad on November 19.
Young Africans are second in the standing with 23 points and they have squarely been competing neck-and-neck with Azam FC for the top seat since the league kicked-off in September.
Simba Sports Club have also given their players a 17-day leave, according to the club English coach, Dylan Kerr.
However, Kerr, whose side outsmarted Majimaji of Songea 6-1, has urged his players to maintain their physical fitness before returning to camp ready to face the Azam FC ‘music”.
Azam FC head coach, British Stewart Hall said in a post- match interview that winning in all their forthcoming matches is their priority.
“We need to score points for us to win the title,” said the British coach.
But his compatriot, Kerr, impressed by their recent 6-1 win, believes that beating Azam FC come this November 12 is important to keep their hopes alive for the title win.
Simba SC are currently occupying the fourth place with 21 points, just one point behind Mtibwa Sugar, who will also face Mbeya City on December 12.
