Dar es Salaam. Tanzania will be represented by a strong junior team as they head to Mauritius to compete in the 2025 Region 4 Juniors Under-18 Golf Tournament, scheduled from tomorrow until August 28 at the Tamarina Golf Club in Tamarin. The team features four promising players—two girls and two boys—who are aiming to showcase their skills and bring home top honours.

Leading the girls’ category is team captain Shufaa Twalib, alongside Loyce Emilia, while the boys’ division will feature Ibrahim Juma and Ramadhani Yasin.

The young golfers will be guided by professional golfer and coach Angel Eaton from the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Loyce Emilia expressed confidence in their preparation and determination to succeed. “We thank our coaches for preparing us well.

We are ready to compete and determined to return with victory,” she said. Emilia added that the tournament will provide valuable international exposure and experience, helping them advance toward becoming some of the best young golfers in Tanzania and across Africa. She called on all Tanzanians to support the team with moral encouragement. During the flag-off ceremony held yesterday at the TPDF Lugalo Golf Club, Queen Siraki, President of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), praised the team’s readiness.   “All players are in excellent form and fully prepared to represent the nation. We are confident they can aim for victory,” she said. Siraki highlighted the recent successes of Tanzanian female golfers at international competitions, including the Zambia Ladies Open, Ghana Ladies Open, Coastal Ladies Open in Kenya, and the UGC Open in Uganda, underscoring the rising standard of the country’s youth golf.

Johnson John, Coordinator at the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), outlined that the 54-hole tournament will follow a stroke play format and is organised under the auspices of The R&A and the Africa Golf Confederation. Competing nations include Mauritius, Kenya, Uganda, Madagascar, and Reunion. “This tournament is vital for our young golfers to gain international experience, learn, and prepare for major championships,” he said, noting that golf instills discipline and helps shape young athletes into ambassadors for their country.

John also expressed gratitude to parents, coaches Angel Eaton and Athumani Chiundu, and sponsors whose support made the trip possible.

TGU Treasurer Elinisaidie Mjuri encouraged the players to believe in themselves and assured them that Tanzanians would be cheering them on from home.
