Taswa teams shine in Arusha Cup

Tanzania Sports Writers Association (Taswa) football and netball teams won top honours at the 13th Arusha Media bonanza, which came to a close on Sunday.

As Taswa FC successfully retained their Arusha Media bonanza title, their sisters, Taswa Queens, emerged netball champions after winning their respective final matches at the General Tyre grounds.

In football, Taswa FC launched their title defence campaign with a 1-1 draw with Sun Rise Radio before beating hosts Taswa Arusha 2-0.

In their third match, they squeezed a 1-0 win over Radio Five in a closely contested match to clinch the title.

A goal by Said Seif is all Taswa FC needed to down hard-fighting Radio Five in the thrilling final.

Seif concluded a one-two between Majuto Omary and Mohamed Akida with a sizzling shot that gave Radio Five goalkeeper no chance.

In netball, Taswa Queens snatched the title after beating Taswa Arusha 19-7 in an exciting final.

Arusha Regional Commissioner Mrisho Gambo is among dignitaries who attended the match.

The Dar es Salaam-based teams were awarded trophies and cash prizes worth Sh300,000. Sun Rise Radio finished runners up.
