74yr-old arrested for defiling 14 schoolgirls

Singida. A 74-year-old traditional healer has been arrested for allegedly defiling 14 girls aged between seven and 12 years.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the man connived with his nephew to lure primary schoolgirls to his bedroom where he had sexual intercourse with them before paying them Sh2,000.

Acting Regional Police Commander Isya Mbughi confirmed the arrest saying the alleged crime is said to have taken place between December last year and this October.

The traditional healer, who resides in Minga, Mitunduruni Ward, Singida Region, is alleged to have had the help of his 31-year-old nephew.

The police chief narrated the ordeal of one of the victims who is aged seven, whose mother only discovered last week that she had been defiled.

“On October 16, this year, around 5.45pm while she was being bathed by her mother, the victim cried saying she was experiencing pain on her private parts,” he said.

“The mother examined her daughter only to discover a number of bruises on her private parts, which suggested that she had been defiled.

“It was after discovering the bruises that she questioned her daughter who informed her that the suspect had been defiling her several times together with other children,” he told the press.

Mr Mbughi said the mother reported the matter to a local government chairman and later to the police, leading to arrest of the suspects.

He said initial investigations show that the victims are pupils at Singidani, Nyerere and Mughanga primary schools.

The police said the victims revealed that the suspect would lure them to his home to watch videos on his laptop, and then invite them one by one to his bedroom, where he would defile them and pay them Sh2,000, ostensibly to silence them.
