Scania delivers Sh5 billion new busses to Dar customers

Dar es Salaam. Scania Tanzania yesterday presented six Marcopolo viaggio 1050 buses worth $ 2.52 million (about Sh5.04 billion), to two of its clients and vowed to continue offering better services to beat its competitors.
Four of the six buses were presented to Dar express company while the remaining two belong to Kaizirige schools – a boarding learning centre that accommodates students from nursery, primary, secondary and up to high school levels.
This comes at a time when buses and lorries, manufactured by the Swedish automotive industry manufacturer, are facing an increasing competition from products made in Asia, notably, those from China and India. The Scania Tanzania managing director, Mr Anders Friberg, however, said new players were not a threat to the company.
“As long as we have strong growth strategies, to us, competition is not a threat at all…we warmly welcome it and we are ready to face it,” noted Mr Friberg. The company is offering vehicle models that have lower operational costs. It is also giving financing options to its clients through its 7-year old Scania Finance Service.
“We are here for the customers….with provide the required customer care to our clients and that is why we keep on growing despite stiff competition,” he said. Between January and October, according to Mr Friberg, the company’s market share rose to 45 per cent and 35 per cent for buses and tracks respectively, from 19 per cent and 32 per cent last year.
