Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has introduced a programme to improve efficiency.
Called ‘Voyager Plant Optimisation (VPO)’, the programme will be carried out in all its plants: in Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Mwanza and Arusha.
The programme has been implemented by TBL Group’s parent company, AB-InBev, in other countries where it operates and it has succeeded. TBL Ilala plant manager Calvin Martin said here yesterday the programme would touch every employee.
The company is building capacity of its entire staff to ensure that they all understand its functions.
“VPO is a continuous programme to bring greater efficiency and standardisation to our brewing operations and to generate cost savings while improving quality, safety and the environment. VPO also entails assessment of our procurement processes to maximise purchasing power and to help us achieve the best results when purchasing a range of goods and services. Behavioural change towards greater cost awareness is at the core of this program, and comprehensive training modules have been established to assist our employees with the implementation of it in their daily routines,” he said.
In other countries, the programme has enable breweries to conserve the environment, save water and run plants with alternative, environment-friendly energy. TBL Group has minimised environmental pollution and reduced water use from six hectolitres to 3.6 hectoliters in each liter of beer produced through the water recycling system.
Meanwhile, TBL has started using solar energy in its Mbeya plant while in its Mwanza it is generating power using rice hulls to reduce carbon dioxide emission.
