Diamond Platnumz wins 'Best East African Artist' at The Headies 2023

Dar es Salaam.Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz won the Best East African Artist Award at the 16th Headies Awards.

The Headies Awards 2023 were held on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Cobb Energy performing arts centre in Atlanta, USA.

It was an event to be remembered as the future of Afrobeats were celebrated with recognition for their efforts in 2022 and 2023 with awards.

The WCB boss has won the award for the second consecutive year after winning it in 2022.

He whitewashed his signee Zuhura Othman ‘Zuchu’ and Raymond Shabban alias Rayvanny, a former Wasafi signee, Hewan Gebreworld of Ethiopia, and Eddy Kenzo of Uganda, to win the award.

The most decorated East African performer of all time, Diamond Platnumz, keeps reaffirming his position to hold the record for most awards received by any musician in the bloc.

Despite receiving the award, he also lost the ‘African artiste of the year award to Rema who defeated other artistes such as Burnaboy and Marwa Loud from Nigeria and Black Sherif from Ghana.

Other biggest winners on Sunday night were Rema and Burna Boy, both went home with three awards each. Asake also received two awards, including album of the year for his album ‘Mr Money with the Vibe'.

The Headies Award was established by Hip Hop World Magazine in 2006 to honour musical accomplishments by mainly Nigerian artists.

The 2023 Headies, held in the US for a second consecutive year, rewarded works released between January 2022 and March 2023, with trophies presented in more than 30 categories.
