The four assistants to the VP were injured at an accident which occurred yesterday at Malanje Village in Mtwara District. The entourage was heading to Tandahimba District from Mtwara town.

Regional Police commander Thobias Sedoyeka told reporters that the cause of the accident, which occurred at around 10.30am, could not be established immediately.

“It is true that one car which was in the Vice President’s entourage was involved in an accident and four people were injured. The vehicle is also damaged and the injured were rushed to Ligula Hospital in Mtwara town for treatment,” he said.

He named those who were injured as Nehemia Mandia, 38, Dadi Kolimba, 43, Tahya Bundala, 55, and Maulid Hassan, 32.

Regional Medical officer Dr Wedson Sichalwe confirmed that the injured were received at Ligula Hospital from Nanguruwe District where they received first aid before being referred to the regional hospital.

Meanwhile, speaking during the opening of Public Leaders Ethics Secretariat building in Mtwara, Ms Hassan said despite improvements recorded in public service there were a number of challenges that must be addressed.

“Let me insist on one thing, there is no achievement without discipline at workplace. All public institutions should give weight to this issue,” she said.
