Dar es Salaam. The fate of former Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) managing director William Mhando will be known on Friday next week when the court delivers its ruling on his alleged abuse of office and forgery.

Mr Mhando is charged along his wife, Eva and two other Tanesco officers for abuse of office and fraudulently obtaining money from the public utility.

Resident magistrate Kwey Rusemwa set the date after the defence closed its case. Eight prosecution witnesses have testified in the case and several exhibits tendered at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court during the hearing that started in June, 2014.

The other suspects are Tanesco employers France Mchalange and Sophia Misidai who are principal accountants. Also on the list is the company’s supplies officer, Naftali Kisinga.

Mr Mhando allegedly abused his position over his failure to declare his interest in Santa Clara Supplies Company Limited, whose directors are his wife and children.

At one time, the firm was later awarded a Sh884.5 million tender to supply office stationeries and other office consumables to Tanesco in violation of the public utility’s code of ethics and conduct and the Public Leadership Code of Ethics Act.

Mrs Mhando is accused of forging an audited financial report of Santa Clara Supplies Company Limited with an intention of defrauding. Mr Mchalange, Ms Misidai and Mr Kisinga, who were also members of the Tanesco tender evaluation committee, allegedly presented false information to the Tender Board to favour Santa Clara.

Supplies Company Limited was a qualified bidder for Tanesco tender.
