Mirerani. The labor disputes between TanzaniteOne miners and their leadership at Mirerani in Simanjiro District, Manyara Region continue as  miners stage a two day protest due to lack of payment.

Speaking to reporters today, the workers claim they have yet to receive their January pay and have requested the government to revoke the firm’s ownership of the area.

Simanjiro District Commissioner Mahmoud Kambona said he spoke to the company leadership on the phone and they assured him that they had already deposited the workers’ salaries.

“One of the directors of the company assured me that they had already stashed salaries in each worker’s account and that those with accounts at the Amana Bank had already got theirs,” Kambona said.

But workers are dissatisfied with management and their grievances extend to more than just their monthly salaries.

“The company is a major mining operation  but it fails to have clean and safe drinking water for its staff! We buy water from Hai District, it is saddening and very surprising,” said Sophia Mbimbi a company employee.
