Dar es Salaam. Stand United head coach Patrick Liewig has singled out profligacy in front of goal as the major factor behind his side’s poor performance in the Mainland Premier League.

The Shinyanga outfit is placed sixth in the VPL standings with 19 points, 11 behind league leaders Young Africans.

Second-placed Azam FC who beat Majimaji 2-1 in Songea on Sunday, are on 29 points ahead of Mtibwa Sugar Simba and Mwadui FC.

The French tactician is now under-fire following the team’s dismal show in the top flight which is gradually inching towards its half way mark.

In their last two matches, Stand United lost to Mwadui FC and pace-setters Yanga.

“There’s so much anxiety in front of the goal-line when we get there. The good thing is we create chances, but we’re not finishing them,” he said.

“That’s something we need to work on. Hopefully it’s going to come quickly.”

He said their target was to win their next assignment so as to revive their hopes of finishing in the top five when the league comes to an end next year.

Liewig also asked the club management to refrain from wrangles, saying they can derail the players’ spirits and affect their perormance.
