Yanga unveil Offen Chikola, eye more star signings

  • Yanga’s aggressive transfer strategy signals their intent to defend their league crown and make a bigger impact in CAF competitions

Dar es Salaam. Mainland Premier League champions, Young Africans SC (Yanga), have bolstered their squad with the signing of talented attacking midfielder Offen Chikola from Tabora United.

The fast-rising star becomes the third new player to officially join the Jangwani Street outfit in their ongoing mission to build a formidable squad ahead of the upcoming league season.

Chikola’s arrival adds fresh attacking flair to a team already buzzing with ambition and tactical reinforcements.

His performances for Tabora United last season earned widespread acclaim, drawing the attention of top-tier clubs, but it is Yanga who have won the race for his signature.

The Tanzanian giants had earlier unveiled the acquisition of Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Doumbia, who previously played for Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic and SC Majestic of Burkina Faso.

Another major addition is Balla Moussa Conté, who has joined from Tunisian side CS Sfaxien on a two-year contract.

Yanga are also banking on the firepower of Ivorian striker Ecua Celestine, formerly of Zoman FC.

The forward is expected to provide more depth and competition in the club’s attacking department.

In addition to new signings, Yanga have ensured continuity by renewing contracts with key players.

Midfield maestro Mudathir Yahya, a long-serving figure in the team, has had his contract extended by two years. The Zanzibar-born playmaker remains a vital component of Yanga’s midfield engine.

Not resting on their laurels, the club is reportedly targeting veteran defender Mohammed “Tshabalala” Hussein from their arch-rivals Simba SC.

The experienced left back could bring leadership and stability to Yanga’s defensive lineup if the deal materializes.

Meanwhile, winger Edmund John of Singida Black Stars is also said to be in advanced talks with Yanga and may become the club’s next signing.

Known for his pace and crossing ability, his inclusion would be another boost for the title holders.

Yanga’s aggressive transfer strategy signals their intent to defend their league crown and make a bigger impact in CAF competitions.

With the new season fast approaching, fans can expect more announcements as the champions continue to shape their squad for a successful campaign.
