Five accused persons acquitted, re-arrested at Kisutu Court

- The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has acquitted Dar es Salaam businessman Mohamed Mustafa Yusufali and four co-accused. The businessman was named by President John Magufuli that he was stealing Sh7 million per minute.
- The accused persons were, however, re-arrested and detained at the court’s cell immediately after their acquittal.
Dar es Salaam. The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has Friday on January 11, 2019 acquitted a resident of Dar es Salaam, Mohamed Mustafa Yusufali and four co-accused.
Mr Yusufali was named by President John Magufuli that he took part in stealing Sh7 million in every minute, prompting for his arrest and prosecution.
Mr Yusufali was charged together with four other accused persons namely Mr Alloyscious Gonzaga Mandago, Isaac Wilfred Kasanga, Taherali Sujjauddin Taherali and Mohamed Seif.
They were facing 198 counts including forgery, submitting false documents to government authorities, money laundering and occasioning a loss of Sh15 billion to the government.
However, the charges facing the accused persons were dropped under Section 91(1) of the Criminal Procedures Act (CPA) cap 20 as amended in 2002.
Principal State Attorney Hashim Ngole told the court that although the case was brought for mention, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had no intention of continuing with the case.
Speaking after the submissions, the court’s magistrate Augustina Mmbando accepted the submissions and told the accused persons that they were allowed to walk free from the court.
However, the accused persons were re-arrested after their acquittal and detained.
