Osha: Why we focus on the private sector

Tanzania’s private sector has more work place safety issues than the public sector, the regulatory agency says
Mbeya. The Occupational Safety and Health Authority (Osha) has said it has put more focus on the private sector because it has more workplace safety more issues.
Osha senior official Alex Ngata said on April 27, 2019 in Mbeya City that more industries and construction activities are in the private sector and that is whey more focus in put on the sector.
There has been complaints that Osha inspectors target private sector stakeholders more, but Mr Ngata said because of the few number of inspectors they have to focus on the private sector.
“We do not have enough inspectors and so we have to focus on one area. And it turns out that most industries and other activities are in the private sector,” Mr Ngata noted.
