Coast. A five-member committee has been formed by Coast regional commissioner Evarist Ndikilo to investigate the chairman of Dutumi Village in Kibaha District, Mkali Kanusu, who is accused of failing to call a meeting to present the village’s earnings and expenditure to residents.
The committee will probe Kanusu for seven days before giving its report as the chairman is also accused of selling and allocating village land to investors for his own interests without observing laid down procedures and principles of good governance.
However, the chairman, who doubles as the councillor of Dutumi ward, vehemently denied any wrongdoing, saying the accusations were aimed at disgracing him.
Speaking yesterday in a meeting held at the village, the RC who accompanied by members of the regional Security and Defence Committee, said he had for a long time heard the dispute between the chairman and the villagers and that he decided to go to the village to hear their grievances and find a solution.
To start with, Ndikilo said there seemed to be a division among residents, explaining that there were those who accepted the chairman and others who were against him. To establish the truth of the matter, he said, he saw it necessary for the formation of the probe committee.
A resident of the village, Rajabu Rajabu, said that the accusations facing his chairman were but were genuine and that the RC’s probe committee would help unearth the truth.
