Dar es Salaam. South African-based Bravo Group has plans to establish a furniture factory Dar es Salaam this year. The company has held discussions with the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), the minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Charles Mwijage, Tanzania Prisons Service and the South African embassy.
The factory is expected to create employment for 150 youth. Speaking to The Citizen at the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair grounds, a senior official at the company, Mr Arthur Masondo, said the company will invest at least Sh21.6 billion.
Mr Masondo said the company has decided to establish the factory in the country to enable people buy cheaper quality furniture.
According to him, the company will employ ex-convicts, who have acquired skills while serving their terms in prison.
He said the company has 14 factories in South Africa while other factories are in Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia and plans are underway to open a branch in Ethiopia.
