Eng Besta emphasizes the critical role of continuous skill enhancement for maintaining competitiveness and productivity in the country.
Dar es Salaam. The Chief Executive of Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), Eng Mohamed Besta, has called on government entities to prioritize competence across all professions and fields to bolster productivity.
He also commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration for their unwavering support of the engineering sector, notably in empowering local contractors with project opportunities.
In a special interview today, March 10th, Eng. Besta emphasized the critical role of continuous skill enhancement in maintaining competitiveness and productivity within the country.
He stressed the importance of professionals and skill bearers adopting a mindset of continuous improvement to propel development initiatives forward.
"In our pursuit of growth and development, it is imperative for employers and public organizations to transition towards competency-based structures," stated Eng Besta, highlighting the need to shift away from solely emphasizing qualifications in favor of nurturing competencies.
He cautioned against overrating qualifications at the expense of skills and attitude, emphasizing the necessity of aligning qualifications with meaningful actions to cultivate competencies for effective service delivery.
Eng Besta urged for renewed efforts in skilled development among organizations and government agencies to address the diminishing levels of competencies across various sectors.
Expressing concern over declining competencies in specialties crucial for the country's growth, Eng Besta singled out the engineering sector as particularly vulnerable across the continent.
"In Africa, we must align our economic strategies with the imperative to nurture innovative and progressive human resources to support our economies," he remarked.
