Tanzania swimmers urged to win medals in SA tourney

Dar es Salaam. Members of the Tanzania Swimming Squad have been challenged to fight hard in the South Africa Level 3 Regional group swimming championship due on March 28 to 31 at Ellis Park.
Tanzania Swimming Association chairman Imani Dominick told The Citizen that the competitors were scheduled to leave for Johannesburg today for further training as well as for acclimatising.
According to him, the event features swimmers from various African countries.
He advised the Tanzanian swimmers to concentrate on the victory.
Most swimmers are U-14 and the competition will also enable them to gain international exposure. “Every competition is tough and you need to fight hard.”
Tanzania will field eight swimmers in the event. The swimmers are Nabeel Gahhu, Ria Save, Peter Itatiro, Natalia Ladha, Sophia Latiff, Aravind Raghavendran, Isabelle and Niamh Powell.
According to the schedule received by The Citizen, Natalia Ladha, who will be the first to flag off Tanzania in the event, will have to compete in 13 swimming disciplines.
Natalia is the top swimmer in the 11-year-olds female category. The other is Aravind Raghavendran, 13, who will compete in 11 events. Also on the list are Niamh Powell, 14, who will compete in 10 events; Isabelle Powell, 13, in 12 events; Ria Save, 12, in nine events; Nabeel Gahhu, 11, in seven events; Peter Itatiro, 12, in eight events and Sophia Latiff, 12, in nine events.
