Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has been picked as host nation for the 2015 Council of East and Central Africa (Cecafa) Kagame Club Cup in July while Rwanda will stage the Senior Challenge Cup in November.

Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye confirmed that the two nations have been given the nod to host the aforementioned tournaments.

“We have settled on Rwanda to stage the Challenge Cup and Tanzania to host Kagame Cup. We are still having a few problems to discuss but that is what we have agreed on.”

Musonye further confirmed that Cecafa will hold a press conference in Nairobi today to officially make the announcement.

“We have a few teething problems despite settling on Rwanda and Tanzania as hosts for our competitions, but this will be confirmed on Monday (today) during a press conference.

“We have also agreed that participating teams in Cecafa tournaments will have to pay for their own airfares; Cecafa will meet costs of their officials, referees and allowances while the hosting nation will take charge of accommodation and local transport for teams, Cecafa officials as well as prizes for the winners.”

The decision to pick Rwanda and Tanzania was reached on Friday during Cecafa’s Adhoc committee meeting held in Nairobi. The meeting was attended by Cecafa president Leodegar Tenga, secretary general Nicholas Musonye, Uganda FA boss Moses Magogo, Tanzania Football Federation preasident Jamal Malinzi and Football Kenya Federation president Sam Nyamweya.

The Cecafa Challenge Cup was not held last year after Ethiopia pulled out as host nation at the eleventh hour citing domestic and international engagements. Cecafa could not get a replacement despite talking to Sudan and Uganda. Kenya’s Harambee Stars are the defending champions after they defeated Falcons of Sudan 2-0 in the final played at Nyayo Stadium in 2013.

Azam FC will represent Tanzania in this year’s Kagame Cup by virtue of winning last season’s league title.
