Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s top female golfer, Madina Idd, has once again made her country proud after clinching the 2025 Ghana Ladies Amateur Open title — her second international victory this year.
The tournament, held from July 10 to 12, 2025 at the prestigious Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema, Ghana, marked the 10th edition of the event and attracted elite amateur female golfers from across Africa.
Representing Arusha Gymkhana Club, Madina showcased remarkable consistency and composure to finish first with a gross total of 234 strokes over three rounds.
She carded scores of 74, 80, and 80, holding off tough competition from top regional golfers, including past champions.
“I am very happy to win the title for the second time in Ghana. I also won here in 2023. I thank everyone who supported me on this journey,” said Madina after her win.
The Ghana Open title marks Madina’s second international triumph in less than a month. On June 15, 2025, she won the Zambia Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.
That tournament featured 87 golfers from across Africa. Madina emerged victorious with a gross score of 228 and a net score of 225, posting round scores of 77, 75, and 76.
Madina remains the only Tanzanian female golfer to win major amateur titles in two different countries in a single calendar year — a feat that underscores her rising dominance on the African golf scene.
“This year’s competition was very tough, and I had to push hard every round. I’m proud of what I achieved and grateful to represent Tanzania once again,” she added.
In Ghana, the battle for the podium was intense. The runner-up position was shared by three golfers who tied at 246 strokes: Hororine Djadja, Julienne Afi Amezado, and Ehinomhen Igbinadolor. Diana Osmond followed in fifth place with 248 strokes, while Evelyn Oyome took sixth with 252 strokes. Kenya’s Lorna Mwenda finished seventh (253), followed by Hawa Brito in eighth with 257 strokes.
Christella Makessi Makita placed ninth (268), ahead of Catherine Fabbi (269), Floria Hurtubise (273), and Bousnina Samia Cherif, who rounded out the top 12 with 288 strokes.
Tanzania also had a second representative at the tournament — Yasmin Chali, a seasoned golfer and current Secretary General of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU).
Yasmin, who also serves as Managing Director of the renowned Lina PG Tour, finished 13th with a total of 290 strokes.
The Ghana Ladies Amateur Open is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in women’s amateur golf across West, East, and Central Africa, offering a competitive platform for both emerging talents and seasoned players.
Madina now sets her sights on upcoming tournaments, aiming to extend her winning streak and continue raising Tanzania’s flag on the international stage.
